The following scholarship and awards are presented annually by the Omaha Press Club Foundation.
College Scholarships
Individual Awards
- Stan Bond Scholarship
- Stan Bond was KETV’s first field engineer. He pioneered live broadcasting from remote story locations for the newsroom in which he was a full-time newsgatherer. A past president of the Omaha Press Club and trustee of the Omaha Press Club Foundation, Bond received the Distinguished Club Member Award in 2001
- John F. Davis Scholarships
- In 1974, the Davis scholarships were established in honor of First National Bank executive John F. Davis, who helped establish the Omaha Press Club atop the bank building at 16th and Dodge Streets. The annual scholarships allowed the club to significantly expand its scholarship offerings to help students studying journalism, public relations or advertising.
- Susan Eustice Scholarship
- Susan Eustice was an award-winning public relations and marketing professional who was best known as the longtime communications director for the Salvation Army’s Western Division in Omaha. Susan was also a great friend of the Omaha Press Club, co-chairing its publications committee for 17 years and serving as club president in 2012. This scholarship goes to a student majoring in public relations or marketing.
- Mark Gautier Intern Award
- The first privately endowed Omaha Press Club Foundation award was established by colleagues and friends in memory of Mark Gautier for his distinguished career as a pioneer news director at KMTV. This award is presented to a student upon completion of an internship at an Omaha television station.
- Judy Horan Scholarship
- This scholarship honors the former “queen of grammar” who served as the promotion and marketing director at WOWT for two decades. A longtime Omaha Press Club supporter, Judy ended her career writing for Omaha Magazine and the Omaha World-Herald. This scholarship was established by her husband Jim and will be awarded to a student studying public relations.
- Floyd Kalber Scholarship
- The family, colleagues and friends of Floyd Kalber endowed this scholarship. Nicknamed “The Big Tuna,” Kalber was one of Omaha’s first TV news directors when he worked at KMTV. He was a former news anchor on NBC’s “The Today Show,” WLS-ABC Chicago, and WMAQ-NBC Chicago.
- Robert McMorris Scholarship
- Friends and family of Robert McMorris established this scholarship. McMorris’ career with the Omaha World-Herald spanned 46 years, 7,500 columns and 1,500 “Sun-Up Interviews.” He was a driving force in the development of the OPC restaurant in the First National Bank Building.
- Nebraska Broadcasters Association Scholarship
- Established by the Nebraska Broadcasters Association, this scholarship is awarded to a student who intends to work for a FCC-licensed radio or television station. The student must have demonstrated that intention through an internship, job or co-curricular activity at a broadcast station. The student also must have demonstrated academic excellence.

- Panko-Roberts Scholarship
- The oldest Omaha Press Club scholarship was first presented in 1957 in memory of Omaha World-Herald reporter Walter Panko. More than a decade later, the name of KMTV News Director Jim Roberts was added, and the award now honors all past presidents of the Omaha Press Club and Omaha Press Club Foundation.
- Paul Williams Scholarship
- Paul N. Williams was a dedicated journalist whose 27 years as a newspaperman culminated in a share of the first Pulitzer Prize ever awarded a weekly newspaper, the Sun Newspapers of Omaha. He was assistant professor at the Ohio State University School of Journalism until his death in 1976.
- Edward Zorinsky Graduate Fellowship
- Zorinsky’s family established this scholarship in memory of the late U.S. senator and former mayor of Omaha. The OPC Foundation awards the scholarship to a graduate student from UNO or UNL who is taking courses in journalism, broadcasting, online communication, public relations and/or advertising.
Individual Awards
- John Savage Visual Communication Fellowship
- The John Savage Visual Communications Fellowship is endowed by the family, colleagues and friends of John Savage, a pioneer Omaha World-Herald photojournalist and founder of the Omaha Press Club. The Fellowship provides each campus a $2,000 award for visual communications initiatives that benefit students.
- Career Achievement Award
- Journalism Educator Award
